Frequently Asked Questions
What is a SWIFT Code?
The SWIFT Code, also known as the SWIFT BIC, is used to identify a specific bank for an international transaction. Banks in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and China do not use the IBAN. However, they recognize the system and will process payments using IBAN.
What is the IBAN?
International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is a standard international numbering system to identify individual bank accounts around the world. It is used mainly for sending to banks in the United Kingdom and countries in Europe.
What does the SWIFT Code look like?
The SWIFT Code is made up of either eight or 11 characters.
What does the IBAN look like?
The IBAN is made up of a maximum of 34 letters and numbers.
How do I find the SWIFT Code and IBAN?
Before going to the bank or starting the process from JN Bank LIVE, ask your beneficiary for the IBAN or SWIFT Code, depending on which country you will be wiring funds to. Ensure that you have this information before starting the transaction.
How can my beneficiary identify the SWIFT Code or IBAN?
If your beneficiary does not know their bank’s SWIFT Code or IBAN, they can use any of the following to locate the numbers:
- Check their paper bank statement. They should find the IBAN and BIC on the first page of the paper statement usually in the top-right corner, just below the Sort Code and account number.
- Access the account details via their bank’s online banking app.
- Check their debit card. In some countries, banks will include the number on the debit cards they provide to customers.
- They can get in touch with their bank to request it.
Is the mandatory SWIFT Code and IBAN the main changes?
Yes, these are the main changes, although there is one other minor tweak. You will notice when completing the international wire transfer form that some fields are now marked with asterisks (*). These asterisks mean that the information required is mandatory to process your transaction, therefore, you must input the correct information.
Is there anything else that I should I know?
Yes, there is one last thing that you should be aware of. If you notice that the money hasn’t been withdrawn from your account after submitting your wire, don’t be alarmed. Submitting only means you’ve initiated the processing of the wire. As soon as the transaction is cleared, the funds will be withdrawn from your account.
