On this the 59th anniversary of Jamaicaโs independence, we have much to be proud of in our nationโs history.
This yearโs celebrations have been impacted by COVID-19, which continues to wreak havoc in many parts of the world. Despite the pandemic, we have remained resilient – a testament to the power and determination of the human spirit.
Resilience and determination are undoubtedly deeply rooted in the psyche of all Jamaicans at home and abroad. Under the most trying of circumstances, we have always risen to the top and remained steadfast in our goals.
As our country celebrates almost six decades of independence, we have countless reasons to give thanks.
Our democracy, press freedom, the right to vote and freedom of speech have been preserved and remain mainstays of independent Jamaica.
We must also recognise the tremendous impact made by our people on the global community. Reggae music has influenced every continent of the world. Our track and field athletes have established themselves as the best in the world. And our language, our culture, our food and our way of life have caught the imagination of peoples everywhere.
We also recognise the significant contributions of the Jamaican Diaspora through charities and direct investments in agriculture, education, and health, and through community development initiatives.
The Jamaica National Group believes in Jamaica and the power of our people. We remain committed to doing our part to create a strong economy and in building a nation where everyone has a chance to create a better future for themselves and their families.
May God continue to bless Jamaica and guide our efforts.
Happy Independence Day Jamaica!
