A special community forum themed, “Creating Safer Spaces for Your Family,” will be held at the St. Gabriel’s Anglican Church Hall, 10 Church Street, May Pen, Clarendon, on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 commencing at 3:30 p.m.

The initiative, which is being spearheaded by The Jamaica National Group, is the first in a series of community forums, to take place across the country, and will sensitize JN members and customers about important issues in regard to their safety and security.

Member Ombudsman of The Jamaica National Group, Claudine Allen, explained that the forum is being undertaken in response to security concerns that were articulated by members and customers served by entities within the JN Group.

“We know that every Jamaican wants to feel safer and secure in their homes, at their places of work and in their communities,” Miss Allen stated, “Therefore, this venture seeks to contribute to the wellbeing of residents in communities in which JN operates.”

She opines that Jamaicans need to play a more active role to compliment the efforts of the security forces in crime prevention and control.

“It is the spirit of togetherness and community activism that is needed in our country.   We need to be our brother’s keeper, to know our neighbours, to join citizen groups and to work together to take back our communities, one by one,” she emphasized.

Guest Speaker, Dr. Herbert Gayle, Social Anthropologist, will address the topic:  “Creating a Safer Jamaica,” which will examine the status of violence, its effect on Clarendon, and how safer spaces can be created for communities. Other speakers will include Senior Superintendent Vendolyn Cameron-Powell, Commanding Officer for Clarendon and Captain Michael Powell, Head of Security, at JN Bank.

A safety booklet, produced by the JN Group, will be issued to residents. It highlights tips about road safety, managing cash, visiting Automated Teller Machines, computer security and business safety.
