The Priory Primary &Infant School in St. Ann is appealing for assistance to renovate its Infant Department, which is frequently infected with termites; and to construct a computer laboratory to enhance the learning experience of its students.
โWe would also like to establish a Guidance Department, so that our guidance counsellors would have a space for more โprivate discussionsโ with the students who need it,โ said Mark Williams, principal of the school.
He noted that, if the school received this assistance, it would enhance the comfort level of students and improve their learning experience.
Mr. Williams informed that, interested persons can contribute to the project by donating to the initiative, under the Pledge2Build Project, which is mounted on the ISupportJamaica crowd funding platform.
Phillip Lindsay, operations officer, ISupportJamaica, at the JN Group, said that crowd funding is beneficial, as it is a positive method to gain exposure for projects, or business ventures, which need financial support.
Mr Lindsay also explained that contributing to any initiative via the platform is simple and secure. Interested persons can donate by visiting the ISupport Jamaica.com platform at www.isupportjamaica.com, click on the project; and then click the โFund Projectโ button.
In addition, donations can also be made via credit card; JN Live e-banking; by visiting any JN Branch or MoneyShop; and through interbank transfers.
Some 702 students are currently enrolled at the Priory Primary & Infant School. These children are from various economic backgrounds; and their parents are engaged in various business activities; employed in the tourism industry; are farmers, fishermen and some are unemployed.
The main structure of the Infant Department was renovated in 2014, during a Labour Day project; however, that was merely a temporary fix, and the building continues to be infested by termites.
โThe school is also in need of a play area, to contribute to the holistic development of students. The infants do not have their own bathroom; and, therefore, they share facilities with the students from the primary section,โ explained Mr Williams.
โTeachers are committed to making Priory Infant Department the school of choice in St Ann,โ he added.
โThe Priory School would welcome assistance from corporate Jamaica and Jamaicans in the Diaspora, to improve educational facility for students and enhance their learning environment,โ said Mr Williams. The Pledge2Build Project is an initiative of the Jamaica Diaspora Education Task Force (JDETF) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information. The project was borne out of the 5th Biennial Diaspora Conference held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in 2013, under the leadership of Leo Gilling, a former member of the Diaspora Advisory Board for the West/Mid-West USA.
