Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cash-secured loan?
With a cash-secured loan, you can use the funds in your fixed or contractual account, or funds in an investment account as collateral to borrow money from a financial institution. This is a good way to preserve your savings or investment for a future goal, while it continues to grow.
What is the benefit of a cash-secured loan?
It may be easier to repay a loan than to restart the process of saving towards a goal. Using your savings in a fixed account or funds invested as collateral for a loan provides you with the opportunity to preserve your deposit or investment and allow it to grow.
Because the loan is secured, you’ll benefit from a lower interest rate so that repaying the loan is easier. Plus, you benefit from:
- Same day processing and approval
- Higher borrowing limits than unsecured loans
If your credit has been damaged, a cash-secured loan may help with repairing your credit history.
When the loan has been fully paid, you will be given back access to your deposit.
At JN Bank can I secure the loan with cash in an ordinary savings account?
Unfortunately, no, the monies being used to secure a JN Bank Cash-secured Loan must be held in a JN Bank fixed deposit or contractual savings account, such as a:
- High Yield account
- Direct Gain account

How affordable is the JN Bank Cash-secured Loan?
A JN Bank Cash-secured Loan is very affordable. With an interest rate of 4.5 per cent, plus the current rate being offered on your deposit annually, repayments are manageable. For example, if you are currently receiving interest of 2.5 per cent on your deposit, the interest rate for a JN Bank Cash-secured Loan will be 7 per cent (2.5% + 4.5% = 7%).
What about processing fees, are these also competitive?
Yes, our processing fee is also very competitive. A fee amounting to one per cent, plus GCT, of the loan proceeds is required to process the loan. Depending on the amount you are borrowing, the fee can be added to the loan, or it can be deducted from the loan before disbursement.
How much will I be able to borrow from JN Bank?
You may borrow up to:
- 95 per cent of the amount in your fixed deposit account*
- 90 per cent of funds invested in a repurchase agreement (repo)
- 50 per cent of funds invested in a JN Mutual Fund
*Applicable only in cases where the loan is in the same currency of the fixed deposit
How much time will JN Bank give me to repay the loan?
Our intent is to always make repaying the loan as easy on the borrower as possible. Therefore, borrowers have up to five years to repay.
What if I would like to repay the loan before its due?
