If there is anything that Delroy Foster wishes he could have done better while he was client relations manager, it would have to be becoming an even better leader for his team.

Mr. Foster joined the JNSBL team in 2003 as a field officer in Region 3. Two years later, he was promoted to Regional Supervisor for Region 4 and was promoted again to Client Relations Manager in 2016.  Prior to joining JNSBL, he worked as office manager at the Building Societies Cooperative Credit Union for a number of years. Despite excelling in his role as client relations manager, Mr. Foster believes there is one thing he could have done better and that was being a better leader for his team.

โ€œIf there is one thing I would have loved to have done better while being client relations manager, it was to develop my leadership and management style. I believe this would have motivated the team to perform even better,โ€ Mr. Foster stated. โ€œI believe there was always room for improvement in my style to motivate my team to do better.โ€

The JN Small Business Loans, Head, Regional Credit Sales and Operations, served as client relations manager for Region 4 from 2016 until earlier this year when he relocated to the head office. During that time he presided over an annual increase in the number of loans disbursed as well as the value.

As a result, he was named client relations manager of the year, consecutively for all three years. Although believing there was room for improvement, the former client relations manager of Region 4, which comprises 20 employees spread across five locations in St. Elizabeth and Manchester, said the success would not have been possible without the hard work of his team.  โ€œOur success was a team effort as we all came together to achieve our goals and improve every year,โ€ he said. โ€œI could not have achieved success in my region without the members of my team.  Our hard work paid off as Region 4 was named Region of the Year every year during that time. Also, our best practices have been used in other regions because we have implemented systems that ensure that we meet our targets.โ€

Although he has now been promoted, the father of four finds satisfaction in developing entrepreneurship in rural Jamaica and enjoys seeing clients expand from a small farm or shop to having large or multiple operations.

โ€œRegion 4 is quite large because apart from St. Elizabeth and Manchester, we serve persons in Westmoreland, Trelawny, St. Ann and Clarendon. Clients from those neighbouring parishes come into the different town centres and do business because it is much closer to them and we end up serving them as well,โ€ he explained.

โ€œPeople in rural Jamaica are serious about entrepreneurship and very loyal. Many are farmers or operate shops. Some have multiple businesses and it is a pleasant feeling to see them grow and send their families to school. Theyโ€™re also very honest and loyal when it comes to honouring their commitments and this helps to make our jobs easier,โ€ he stated.

As reward for his hard work, Mr. Foster was promoted to Head Regional Credit Sales and Operations with immediate responsibility/oversight for Regions 1,2,3,8 encompassing the parishes of Clarendon, St Catherine, Kingston, St Andrew and St Thomas in July.  As a result, he now works out of the Head Office on Duke Street.  The affable and jovial sports fan is pleased with the experience he has had at JNSBL since joining the team.

โ€œIt feels good being part of a company that rewards its employees for their hard work,โ€ he said. โ€œIโ€™m pleased to be at a company that is responsive to staff welfare and passionate about entrepreneurship. It feels good to have grown with the company as well and that I have played my part in helping it to grow,โ€ he stated. And, he achieved further recognition when he was awarded the General Managerโ€™s award at our recently held Staff Awards.

The grandfather of one also enjoys socializing with friends and has plans to undertake community work to help at risk youth in the community where he was born.

โ€œMilk River needs some development and programmes to assist the youth, and I will be coming up with various projects to assist the community in the future. I want to see the community fulfill its potential,โ€ he said.
