The deadline for entries in the JN Small Business Loans (JNSBL) Barber and Beauty Challenge has been extended to April 27, 2018.
The original entry deadline date was March 31, 2018; however, that date has now been forwarded by one month, and the competition will be mounted on July 1.
Mr OcKino Petrie, chairman of the Planning Committee for JNSBL Barber and Beauty Battle, explained that, “We changed the date for the JNSBL Barber and Beauty Battle from May 6 to July 1, due to the addition of new elements. Therefore, to execute that aspect of the competition effectively, the committee decided to mount the event at a later date. On that basis, the date for the battle was forwarded; and, the deadline date was extended, as well.”
The competition, which is now in its fourth year, has grown to become a much-anticipated event among members of the beauty industry, since its inception in 2015.
“Our research indicates that the competition is a welcomed addition to the sector, based on the opportunities it provides for funding, certification from HEART Trust/NTA, and the exposure of the skills of participants in Jamaican and regionally. For example, last year’s winning barber, Damayo Riley, is now operating in The Cayman Islands,” he explained.
To enter the JNSBL Barber and Beauty Battle, barbers, hairdressers, nail technicians, make-up artists and Spas are invited to submit the best “before and after” photographs of their work. Entries should be accompanied by the name and location of their operation, a copy of their licence, and their contact numbers.
The top ten contestants in the categories of barbers, hairdressers, nail technicians and make-up artists, will then move on to the exciting second round of the competition. At that juncture, members of the public will be invited to “like” the work of the competitors on social media.
The voting on social media begins on May 7 and runs through May 11. After that date, the top 24 persons, six from each category, will move on to the finals. At the finals, these 24 persons will receive challenges from which the top three winners in each category will be selected.
