Summerโs almost ended, but if thereโs time you can still eek a little fun and enjoying one of our many beautiful public beaches, free of cost! While there are many paid beaches, there are actually several public beaches across the island, which you can visit without paying a dime. Here are five beaches you can visit free of cost:
- Winnifred Beach– Located on the eastern end of the island in Portland, Winnifred Beach, also known as Fairy Hill Beach, has long been a preferred place for swimming, relaxing and just having fun. It is one of Portlandโs many gems and a favourite for locals and visitors alike.
- Flavours Beach- Letโs go to North Coast, Jamaica. Flavours Beach, which is located in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, has a beautiful stretch of white sand and turquoise water. There is also a restaurant on site serving up delicious seafood, chicken and burgers.
- 7 Mile Beach-As the name suggests, Negril in Westmoreland boasts seven long miles of pristine beaches, several of which are free to the public. Anyone who visits Negril will tell you that the water feels as majestic as it looks, not to mention clear and warm. You should go! And if youโre into sunsets, then you can visit around that time as Negril probably has the best view of the sunset in the island.
- Treasure Beach- Treasure Beach has a stretch of public beaches along its south coastline. The beaches look a little different from the ones on the North Coast as they are made up of shiny black sand as opposed to white, and the sea floor tends to be a little rocky in some parts. Nevertheless, the water is just as inviting and delightful. Choose from any of the bays to swim at, such as Great Bay, Calabash Bay or Frenchmanโs Bay, and you might just see a fisherman with some fresh catch for a purchase.
- Bob Marley Beach- Many people are of the opinion that Kingston does not have any beaches but that is actually incorrect. Bob Marley Beach, named after our most famous Reggae icon, is located in Bull Bay and is one beach that you can enjoy in the city. With its dark-coloured sand and beautiful beach stones, it is perfect for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the urban capital, while still being in the city.
Also, donโt feel daunted that you may not be able to go to these beaches because of a lack of transportation. Book your trip with the Jamaica Automobile Association and have your personal chauffeur take you to and from in air-conditioned comfort and style!
